Unbalanced Forces

An unbalanced force occurs on an object the forces acting upon an object do not have the same magnitude. Furthermore, when an object has unbalanced forces acting upon it the object will undergo a change in acceleration. This change can either be a acceleration or a deceleration as long as a change in velocity is achieved. In order to obtain an imbalance of forces the net force of an object must not be zero. In our example of the Ping-Pong ball undergoes an external unbalanced force. The forces of gravity and the table cancel out, however the force of the push of my hand exceeds the force of friction. This imbalance causes the Ping-Pong ball to accelerate as it moves across the table.
